Gig Harbor Little League: Membership & Volunteer Information
Little League Baseball and Softball is an organization designed to build good citizens. It is a program of leadership, preparing today’s youth to be tomorrow’s leaders. Every year GHLL needs responsible and enthusiastic individuals to volunteer as Managers, Coaches, Board Members, Umpires, and many other supporting positions to help run our league. Over the years, when we've asked for volunteers, we've had a lot of parents who have said they were afraid to volunteer because they thought that meant they would end up coaching or umpiring. While we always need volunteer coaches and umpires, there are so many other ways you can volunteer your time and help our league - as a Team Parent, a Special Events Volunteer, helping with pre and/or post game field maintenance, or even running the scoreboard during a game.
Whatever talents or skills you have, we can use them! No experience is required to volunteer, and the league is happy to provide you with any necessary training. In order to become a volunteer you must first become a member of Gig Harbor Little League by paying the $10.00 annual fee (which can be paid with your child’s registration fees) and sign up in our system for a Volunteer Role.
If you did not pay the fee during the registration process, after you have signed up to volunteer, the $10 fee will be added to your account and you can simply log into your account and pay the fee online. NOTE - your background check will not be run until you have paid the fee.
When you apply to become a volunteer, you give the local Little League organization the right to conduct necessary background checks. Gig Harbor Little League utilizes an online Little League Volunteer Application and Background Screening Process.
Volunteers must sign up for a Volunteer Role in our system to begin the process of completing the online Volunteer Application. When you sign up in our system for a Volunteer Role, you will begin the background check process by beginning the online application on our site. You will then receive an email from JDP Background Screening which will contain a link for you to complete the online Volunteer Application. It takes about 15 minutes to complete the application, and you will need to upload a copy of your Government Issued ID (a valid Drivers License).
To sign up for a Volunteer Role in our system:
STEP 1:
You must first sign up for a Volunteer Role in our system to start the application and background check process. Please log in to your account on gigharborlittleleague.org and click on the Volunteer tab >> and then click on Find Volunteer Roles.
IMPORTANT: If you do not already have an account in our system, but the other parent does, please have them add you as an additional user on their account so you are linked to your player(s). If you create your own account, we will not be able to link you to your player’s account.
When you are selecting a Volunteer Role, choose the role you're applying for (either Manager or Coach) and then you will be asked to answer some GHLL specific questions as part of the process, as well as answering questions to start the Little League background check process. *You will need to upload a copy/picture of your driver's license as part of the process, so please have that ready to go.
Once you have completed signing up as a volunteer, the role will display in your account like the image below:
STEP 2:
Once you've completed Step 1, you will receive two emails - one from GHLL confirming that you have signed up to volunteer, and more importantly, an email within 24-48 hours from "Gig Harbor American" containing a link to complete the application online. It should look like this:

The Volunteer Application takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and we recommend that you double check the information you provide for accuracy to make sure there is no delay in processing your background check.
To remain in active consideration for volunteer work, you must complete the Volunteer Application within 14 days.

The online application should take at most 10-15 minutes to fill out. You will not have completed the background check process until you complete this step and sign electronically online.
Make sure that you receive the email confirming that you have completed the online application, it will contain your file number and it should look like this:

Thank you for filling out our volunteer application. Your file number is 1234567. Use this number when referring to your background screening report. If you have any questions regarding next steps, please contact us using the information below.
