Remembering Candy Nelson

Today, on Opening Day of the 2023 Season, Gig Harbor Little League would like to honor one of our own. In January of this year, Gig Harbor Little League board member Candy Nelson lost her courageous battle with cancer at the age of 52.

Candy proudly served as a dedicated volunteer on the board since 2019 as our Registrar and was an active parent since 2012, when her son Colin began playing, and her husband Gordon coaching with the league.

Candy could always be seen around the ball fields cheering on Colin and his teammates and taking pictures to document all those wonderful memories. She loved baseball and Gig Harbor Little League so much, that she remained a self-less and dedicated volunteer serving the community on our Board even after Colin no longer played in the league, including this season until her health no longer allowed her to do so.

Candy will be dearly missed by the Executive Board and its volunteers, the extended Gig Harbor Little League family, and the entire community. She had a positive impact on many people’s lives and the League wants to express our condolences to Gordon, Colin, and her entire family.

One of ways the league would like to honor Candy is through the league’s Candy Nelson Memorial Fund.
The donations will be used to continue Candy's love of photographing players and to provide scholarships for baseball and softball. Gifts are tax-deductible and checks can be made out to Gig Harbor Little League, designating "Candy's Fund" in the memo line. Mail to PO Box 2176, Gig Harbor, WA 98335.
