What Parents Need to Know About All Stars

All Stars Commitment and Eligibility

Being involved in All-Stars requires a level of dedication and commitment beyond the normal requirements of a regular season.

All-Stars Tournament play is intensely competitive and will require more focus and a committed effort to succeed.

We want to make sure you have a full understanding of the All-Star commitment and the following information so you can make a well-informed decision:

• Players must be available for all All-Star practices and all games. Players should expect practices to be scheduled no less than five (5) days per week between the date of team selection and the tournament start date (see below schedule). Parents are responsible for ensuring players attend all practices, games and tournaments.

Tournament Rules differ from Regular Season Rules in many ways, one difference being that in our league we use a continuous batting order for our games, meaning if all of the players on your team are at the game, then all of those will be in the batting order. In Tournament play, the team may only have 9 players in the batting order, and then must substitute in the alternates. All players on the roster must participate in each game for a minimum of six consecutive defensive outs and bat at least one time, so your player will play in the game, but please be aware that due to many variables your player may not play beyond the minimum playing time required.

• Parents are responsible for providing Gig Harbor Little League with the documentation needed to prove age and residency eligibility. Parents must provide an original birth certificate that is Government Issued (State/County). No copies please.

• Families will be financially responsible for the All-Star tournament fees, some of the uniform costs, and all travel and other expenses that Gig Harbor Little League does not pay for.

• Parents should understand that All-Star tournaments will require travel within the state of Washington, and may require travel beyond the state (Majors level only).

• Parents should understand that lodging, travel and other expenses may be incurred if the team advances beyond the District 2 Tournament.

 All-Stars Schedule

• All-Stars practices will begin after our regular season ends, sometime in mid-June.

• Families should expect practices to be scheduled almost every day leading up to the tournament start dates and during the tournament(s).

• The District 2 Tournaments Games will be played at one of the Little League Fields within our District. Game will be played both on weekdays and weekends. Tournaments are double elimination and can last 7-10 days beyond the start dates of the tournament. We are unable to provide exact game schedules at this time.

• If your team wins the District 2 Tournament, they will advance to the Washington State Tournament.  Washington State Tournaments may be held in any of the 13 districts across Washington State. Games will be played both on weekdays and weekends. Tournaments are double elimination and again, can last 7-10 days beyond the start dates. We are unable to provide exact game schedules at this time.

All-Star Selection Process

Depending on player numbers and other factors, teams may be organized as follows: 8-10 year olds, 9-11 year olds, and (Majors) 10-12 year olds.

Selection to the All Star team is based on a process of players and managers voting from a list of eligible players. Players who meet the following criteria are eligible for the team:

• Players must have attended 60% of regular season games.

• Players must be living (or attend school) within our Gig Harbor Little League boundaries.

• Players must meet age eligibility requirements. Players ages for All-Star teams shall be determined using the official Little League “League Age” rules.

Players must also have shown exemplary skills, aptitude and attitude during the regular season, and be recognized by their peers, Managers and Coaches for their playing excellence.

Final All-Star rosters are subject to approval by the GHLL All-Star Committee.

All eligible players for the teams will be listed on the ballot for voting.

The players and managers will vote for candidates in their respective Divisions and/or Leagues - i.e. Majors players vote for players in the Majors, AAA players vote for players in AAA. All voting will take place during the City Championship.

More information about All Stars and voting will be sent out to families closer to the end of our regular season.

It’s important for parents to be reminded that participating in Tournament Play is a choice, and that while it is a privilege to play, it is also a commitment with added practices and games. If you realize that your son or daughter has several conflicts, it may be a wise decision to pass on a tournament selection, and allow another Little Leaguer to share in the experience.
